The Seminoles
The First Seminole war
The Seminole war took a while to get to the actual point of war. Signs of War first started appearing During the war of 1812; Americans were angry with the seminoles for providing refuge to runaway slaves. The Seminole war only started three years after the war of 1812 ended.

Once Americans Attempted to recapture run away slaves living with seminole bands, but the seminoles resisted. Americans reacted to these confrontations by sending Andrew Jackson to Florida with an army of about 3,000 men. Jackson was successful in his attacks and left many dead and dying Seminole behind in their destroyed villages. He went on to attack Spanish settlements and captured Spanish forts at St. Marks and Pensacola. This resulted in a negotiation of a treaty with the United States in 1819. The agreement was signed by John Quincy Adams and Luis de Onis and was called the Adams-Onis Treaty.
